Transitions: A company that helps the whole community!
It can be hard when you have a loved one that you don’t know how to help. You want to do whatever you can to take care of your family and friends and get them the help that they need!
Transitions of Western Illinois is here to help! Transitions touches so many lives in the community and is doing everything they can to give people the assistance and support that they need to live normal, happy lives.
They specialize in assisting clients with mental and developmental problems, to be able to live their lives to their fullest! They are fully equipped with over 175 staff members to help clients with whatever they need, from meeting with a caseworker once every couple of weeks to group homes, schools and work training programs for clients.
No one is turned away from receiving assistance from Transitions. 1 in 5 Americans will need the type of assistance that Transitions has to offer at least once in their lives. They work with all ages, and help everyone from those needing constant assistance and supervision, to people that live a basically normal life and might just need a little help with grief counseling, etc.
Annually more than 10,000 lives are touched by Transitions in the community! Most of Transitions’ clients actually have jobs and live out in the community. Case managers specifically tailor their approach to the clients that they serve. They do everything from help their clients deal with grief or stress issues, to helping them find jobs, know where to find housing, etc.
The goal of Transitions it to help their clients learn how to be independent, and have self confidence enough to be able function as best as they possibly can. They even have a school, and a Community Rehabilitation Center , where people with disabilities can learn the skills that they will need to be able to get and maintain a job in the community. They do everything ranging from working for a commercial linens cleaning service, working in packaging and assembly and janitorial work. This not only gives the clients a little extra spending money, but the skills they need to know that they can get and keep a job in the community. Several companies actually hire the trainees after they have completed their training through the CRC. They also help their clients with other types of work and living situations that they have.
All of the programs that Transitions offers are voluntary for clients to participate in, and if they feel that they are no longer in need of the services they are free to take themselves out of the programs that they are in, but if they feel that they would like to participate again, Transitions’ services are always open to anyone in need of them.
They have a phenomenal program for children birth to three years old who have either mental, or developmental problems, or are at risk, where Transitions works not only with the child but also with the families to give the child every advantage that they can.
Transitions also has a lot of outreach programs in the community where they will speak about mental or developmental disabilities. 1 in 5 Americans suffer from some type of mental disadvantage at some point in their lives. Transitions hosts NAMI which is an organization that supports parents and friends of people suffering from a mental illness. The goal is go be able to help and support their friends and loved ones that need their understanding.
Transitions also helps out the community by providing about 175 jobs in the community! They have everything from clerical staff, to assistant staff in the group homes, caseworkers, therapists, and psychiatrists. The also own camp Sacajawea which is completely handi-capped accessible, which can provide the joy of camping to those who would not otherwise be able to. Which also helps them to build self esteem and learn valuable skills.
How can you get involved with all that Transitions does for the community? Of course they can always use monetary donations, which are tax deductible. This helps provide the programs to the community which could help out you or a loved one. No one is ever turned away from Transitions due to their financial situation. They could also always use helps with their programs, their camp and clerical help!
